…Is not so little any more! He is now 19 months old! His 18-month check up went well. We are very pleased with our new pediatrician! He has not grown much taller over the last 6 months so he’s down to the 50th percentile in height from about the 90th and his weight is also now around the 50th. His head circumference, however, is off the charts! It could be because he knows so many words now! He says (and/or signs) well over a hundred words (the pediatrician was expecting about 6 words at his age) and is working on stringing them together and annunciating more syllables in long words. Some of his ‘sentences’ sound like “milk in bottle”, “dada bike ride” and my favorite one :“oops dada poop.”
We are fairly certain now that Owen has a cow’s milk allergy. He had a hacking cough and some cold symptoms fairly regularly for a while. We saw several pediatricians as we explored all of the doctor’s in Owen’s previous Pediatrician’s office and he was put on medications and inhalers and we were told he probably has asthma and/or allergies. Our new Pediatrician, however, suggested we take him off cow’s milk and see what happened. He got better. We re-introduced cow’s milk last week and he immediately began hacking again. So now he’s back on Almond milk (he refuses to drink soy and I cannot blame him).
He was officially moved up into the Toddler classroom with the two-year olds at school. He loves it there and we are happy about the move. The format is similar to the 1-year old room but they do more structured learning activities.
Owen and I go to Music Together class once per week. Owen’s favorite part is playing the instruments and dancing. Daddy and Owen take swim lessons on Saturdays. Owen loves to jump into the pool but is less than thrilled with some of the other activities. He is far-and-away the youngest in both classes.
And if you haven’t noticed yet, Owen absolutely, positively loves trucks and tractors. Buses and cars were SO last month. Trains are still pretty cool but take a back seat to the more manly machines. Sometimes just as we think he has fallen to sleep for the night, he will shoot up in bed and say “TRACTOR!” He likes to yell and point out “big rig!”, “tractor!”, “digger!”, “plane!”, “’copter!”, “truck”, and “BIG truck!” as we drive down the road. Luckily, a freight train and the MAX train both run near our house. We also live in farm country and drive past the Hillsboro Airport every day.
