Overdue Update

Tomorrow, Owen will be 3 weeks old! He’s doing very well. He sleeps, eats, cries and poops with the best of them. He wants to be held all of the time and isn’t too interested in his bassinet or swing.

Owen had jaundice when we were released from the hospital. So we had to go to the pediatrician’s office to have him checked every day for the first five days and a few more times since. Now he finally seems to be over the jaundice. For the first few days we also had to have him on a special light that helps to eliminate bilirubin (the cause of jaundice) from his body. That made life a bit more complicated.

This week, Owen will be taking his first trip with me up to visit my family in Seattle.

He's Here!

Owen Robert Irving was born at 5:07 PM on April 4th. He weighs 7 lbs 5 ounces and is 20.25 inches long.

I checked into the hospital just before 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 3rd to be induced. I thought Owen was going to be born by 3 AM the next day or so. However, 24 hours later, after dealing with the baby being in the wrong position and the associated pains of back labor and eventual vacuum extraction, Owen was finally born. It was a long, somewhat complicated labor, that did not go according to plan, but everything turned out fine!

We are all really happy to finally be home and out of the hospital!
