Ducky Time

Little Climber

Q-T with Daddy

Quick update: Owen's cold is slowly improving, however he's come down with two new ailments this weekend. I won't go into them here ... just in case you are eating something right now. ;-) Despite it all, he's in good spirits.

PB&J Hair

Owen has peanut butter and jelly in his hair in this picture. It's kinda hard to tell. But he wore more of it than he ate.
He eats bubbles and drinks bath water from a cup and says "mmmmmmmmmmm." But he won't touch chicken, noodles, cheese and other such big-people foods with a 10-foot pole.

Bathtime for Sickie

Owen is now suffering from major nasal congestion, icky cough and probably a sore throat! This kid can't catch a break. Travis and I also have been suffering from cold/allergies for weeks upon weeks with no end in sight. In the past month alone Owen has had a skin rash, diaper rash/yeast, pink eye, a cold, a cough, a flu-like virus with fever, and now another cold. I blame it on this weird weather; it's supposed to snow today!

Owen’s Newest Talents

Owen is working on jumping. He hasn’t gotten any air yet but understands the word and the concept and tries to jump when I say “jump!”

He now does a run/walk but hasn’t figured out full-blown running yet (phew!).

He’s also been trained to “get mommy” which involves run-walking to me with arms outstretched and fingers wiggling, then tickling me. He doesn’t “get daddy” quite as well. I guess I need to work on that.

Monkey see, Monkey do. Owen is very into imitating right now. If I run my hand through my hair, he runs his hand through his hair. If he sees another kid do something, he tries to do it as well.

Owen will put any phone or anything that remotely resembles a phone (calculator, box, baby monitor, etc) up to his ear and say “ooooooooooo?”

Owen puts his own dirty diapers in the diaper genie. If only we could train him to change his own diapers!

Owen knows Elmo, will retrieve one of his 9,000 Elmo dolls if you ask him “where’s Elmo?” And although I’d like to deny it, has on occasion said “Elmo”. He’s also simultaneously amused and frightened by Hokey Pokey Elmo.

His newest words are Elmo, balloon, spoon … I think that’s all since the last update. He is starting to sign “bath.”

Oh, and Owen also did our taxes for us this year. ;-)

Playground Time

Look Mom! No Pants!

Not only does Owen not have pants on in this picture, he also has no diaper on! He has some serious diaper rash going on (for the first time) and so he got some quality diaper-less time today to help heal (although most of it was spent sitting on a towel reading, not wandering around). Last time he had his diaper off and was asked to walk from his room to the bath tub he managed to both pee and poop on the carpet on his way!

Pictureless Update

Today was Owen's 12-month check-up. We switched Pediatricians because our last one was leaving the mega-practice to start his own practice in SE Portland (not close). So let me tell you how happy I was to hear from our new Pediatrician that he is leaving this other practice to start his own practice. However, his is close by. So now we have to decide if we want to switch again or stay with the new guy (without the handy-dandy on-call doctors, advice nurse lines, etc).

Owen is 30.5 inches long (still tall) (and note: I measured him 2 weeks ago and he was about 29 inches!), 21 pounds, 6 ounces (skinny), and his head is still big but hasn't grown any since the whole giant-head-ultrasound debacle.

He had only 2 of his 5 shots today. We're choosing to spread the rest out over the next few months. But they were 2 painful ones and Owen screamed. He fell asleep on the way home and is in bed now. He also has a cold.

Between sicknesses and shots, this kid can't catch a break lately!

Owen's 1st Birthday Party

On Saturday, we had a small birthday party for Owen with family. Owen enjoyed opening his mound of presents and devouring his own little birthday cake! Here is our album of pictures. I will add more after I steal some from the many other photographers that were there! We are missing pictures from the candle lighting and blowing but have everything else pretty well covered, I think! It is hard to believe that Owen is now a 1-year-old!

Official Birthday Cupcake

Owen had a cupcake this evening in celebration of his actual birthday. He will get an entire cake to himself, tomorrow! Although he does not like to EAT the cake, he still has fun with it!

All is Well that Ends Well...

Owen napped on-and-off (mostly on) for the first six hours of his birthday. Then woke up in relatively good spirits, considering he still had a fever. So we headed to the campground afterall and Owen had some fun! Then, he napped again on the way home and was in bed by 7:30!

Worst Birthday Ever!

Owen is 1 today! It is hard to believe! Unfortunately, he woke up this morning with a low fever and general fussiness. And he's been sleeping basically all day so far. I have no idea what is causing this and am waiting for a call back from an advice nurse at his pediatrician's office, just to be sure. My guess is that he's depressed about getting older. ;-) Seriously though, there is a lot of sickness going around right now, however it could also potentially be teething, a cold that has hit him hard, or an ear infection. It would be nice if he was able to tell me what hurts! :-(

We had to drop out of our Yoga class which we were supposed to start this morning and will most likely not be going out to visit my family this afternoon as planned (they are camping nearby). And tomorrow's party is likely going to be a big BUST with the guest of honor snoozing and crying upstairs!

Poor baby! Impeccable timing!

A Day in the Park

Mad Hatter

Pick Me Up Lady!

Face-First Dives

We went to the Children's Museum on Monday. Second time we've used the membership that Owen is getting for his upcoming birthday already! :) There is a waterworks exhibit that Owen enjoys. One part is low enough for him to splash his hands in. It's only about 1 inch deep and Owen decided to climb on in. He ended up falling in face-first. Unfortunately, I stopped carrying a change of clothes several months ago (after NEVER needing them). He was soaked so I had to initially strip him down to his diaper and put him in my fleece coat. Later he wore his coat and his kinda dry pants. He fell asleep in the car on the way home and this picture is of what he woke up wearing. Just his coat and a diaper!
