Ready for Spring

Owen turns 2 a week from Saturday! How did this happen? Actually, I’ve been calling him a 2 year old for a while now, so it’s not really that shocking. We have tons of family coming in for his big birthday bash on the 4th. He absolutely loves birthdays, balloons and cake so he’s very, very excited!

He is finally not sick, but of course now I am sick, so we’ll probably just keep passing it back and forth. He’s in good spirits and finally sleeping well. He’s beyond ready to be potty trained. In fact, he uses the potty when he feels like it (without any prompting or training from us), but we haven’t started training him because WE’RE not ready. We have to coordinate with daycare, etc etc.

He’s talking so much now and continually cracking us up. He and I can carry on pretty heavy-duty conversations, although my recent explanation about how the United State Postal Service works didn’t seem to go over too well. Using sending a letter to his cousins as an example, he just became exasperated that he couldn’t go see his cousins RIGHT NOW!

He sings the Bob the Builder Theme Song “Bob the Builder. Can we fix? Yes we can!” He reads his “That’s Not My Train” book to himself (he turns to each page and says “THAT’s not MY train!”) He makes up some songs too.

Yesterday he told me “No, I want different cup.” To which I said “you know how to say that?” Every day it’s a new sentence. He says “be right back” when he runs off to get something, which always amuses me. He’s good at demanding things “Mommy – lay down! Right there!”

He LOOOOOOOOVES basketball still, of course. We turned his playhouse around and there is a bit taller basketball hoop on there that he immediately was making shots into. He’s invented a new word: “Shoops” Which is his slurring of “shoot hoops.” His basketball vocabulary is growing as well: “shoot it”, “dunk it”, “allllmost”, “yessssss!”, “DE-fense!”, “BOOM!”. He’ll spend several minutes clearly trying to create his latest dunk move, running up to the hoop and twisting this way or that and then “BOOM!” I honestly don’t where this comes from but if there is a “basketball gene” he certainly has it. He loves the Blazers and thinks every team is the Blazers. He likes to wear his Blazers shirt. He gets excited when he sees someone else wearing one too, or if he sees a “Blazers guy” on TV. I don’t know how he’s going to survive when basketball season is over! Hopefully he’ll take to baseball as well.

He got his haircut a couple of weeks ago. It is shorter now. There are a few pictures of the new ‘do trapped in our camera, if we ever get them out, we’ll post them.

One of his favorite things to do is wash his hands. It’s ridiculous. He’ll purposefully get his hands dirty so he has to wash them. Of course it is just an excuse to play in the water. I can’t wait till summer when I can put him in the backyard with a bucket of water or pool for hours upon hours of entertainment.

He’ll also purposefully throw his toys into places where he’s not allowed to go, so that he has an excuse to go there. For example, the area behind our TV is like toddler heaven. Tons and tons of cables to pull out and plug in here or there. Needless to say, he’s not supposed to go back there. So he’ll take a toy and throw it back there and then say “uh oh! Owen get it!”

Pictures to come ...
