It's been difficult for us to find time to update the blog lately. And it has been especially hard to write much about the pictures we manage to throw up here. So I thought I'd take a moment to fill you in on what Owen is up to!
It is hard to believe but Owen is 14.5 months old already! Time flies.
I am starting my 5th week at work and thus Owen is on his 5th week of daycare. Travis drops him off around 8:30 AM each morning. Owen cries very briefly when dad says goodbye, but he gets over it very quickly. He is a very sensitive and emotional child. He is making friends and having fun playing in the classroom, creating art projects, and playing outside. They have water play days which Owen thoroughly enjoys! He is really getting into the daily routine they adhere to. At 11:15 AM, they have lunch and then clean up and go lay on their cots. Owen generally falls asleep just after Noon and wakes up around 2 PM, when I pick him up. Then we have the afternoons together to go have some fun!
We’ve had a couple of bad teething weekends recently as Owen’s molars make their appearances. He now has 12 teeth and at least a few more are coming in now.
Owen eats to survive only. He’ll go days or weeks without eating much and then spends days and weeks eating like a horse, when his body says it is time for a growth spurt. His favorite foods vary from day to day but blueberries, asparagus, bread, and milk are almost always winners! He also loves breakfast foods like waffles and pancakes, and prefers pastas with lots of flavor … buttered noodles? No way!
He loves to play outside. He likes climbing jungle gyms that he is way too small for, collecting (and eating) bark, rocks, dirt and leaves; splashing in puddles, pushing buttons (literally and figuratively), trying to turn on water faucets, etc. He loves balls and thinks everything round-shaped is a ball – that’s what he calls blueberries, strawberries, apples, rocks, nuts … anything round he sees. He loves to climb into and onto everything. He loves Elmo and Sesame Street.
He is continuing to learn new words and signs every day. He understands a lot. Like if we ask him to go get his jammies or to get his shoes and bring them to daddy, he will (generally) do what we ask. Although he does love to tell us “NO!” He is very interested in animals and loves to make animal noises. He is also interested in naming body parts and knows eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, ears, hair, toes and belly. He even points them out on his Elmo dolls and other people. He yells “hi” and “bye” as he waves to strangers across rooms and parks, but shies away from saying them to people who are actually right in front of him and interested in him.
He is doing great and we are all having so much fun! We can’t wait to get out and spend a fun summer in the sun!
