What's New?
We’ve been having a fun summer so far! So much so that Owen now officially has a farmer’s tan! He had learned the sign for play and uses it often! What else is a kid supposed to do though, right? We spend a lot of time at the park. He prefers to climb things, play with dirt and bark, and follow big kids around over going down the slide or swinging, which he could care less about.
He is absolutely obsessed with basketball. If a kid leaves a ball near the playground, he quickly grabs it and heads towards the basketball court screaming “ba- ball!” When he gets there he stands under the regulation-height hoop and stares up. He really wants to put the ball in the hoop but it is so far away, he doesn’t even try. But it never gets old. He must have learned this from TV or watching big kids because we did not teach him!
He loves to play in water, whether it is one of the fountains or water features nearby, a pool, drinking fountain, bath, or household faucet! He also loves bikes!
He picks up words quickly now and can (sadly?) say “coffee” and “tv.” He has also managed a few times to not only turn the tv on but also start and successfully play an Elmo DVD on his own. I’m not sure we should admit that though.
He loves daycare now, which we call school. Owen has learned how to say “school” and asks to go on weekends and sometimes in the afternoons as I am putting him in the car to go somewhere. No, sorry, buddy, you have to hang out with me! He loves his best friend, Annika and hugs and kisses her regularly now without prompting. She has not returned the favor but is happy to receive is affection … most of the time. When I tell him we are going to go play he asks if Annika is going to be there by saying “kah?”
I took him to the doctor recently because he has had a ‘cold’ all summer. As I suspected, he most likely has allergies and/or asthma. We are trying out some medication but haven’t solved the riddle yet. He is in good spirits none-the-less.
Owen is helping us pack for our big move this month by throwing his toys in the boxes I am trying to pack. He will probably be much more helpful at unpacking, seeing as he likes to empty things more-so than fill them.
