A Bedtime Comedy

Owen is a big fan these days of lift-the-flap books. When there are no flaps to lift he at least needs to be the one to turn the pages. He's active even during storytime! He's taken a particular liking to one (non-flap-lifting) book this week though. He thinks the story Blue Hat, Green Hat by Sandra Boynton is hilarious! He laughs at all of the appropriate points in the story. It's very, very cute and funny! Nice book selection, Aunt Stephanie!

Owen woke up this morning with a cold and he's been a little bit on the cranky side as a result! Tomorrow he gets to spend all day with dad though, as I'm cashing in a vacation day and going on a winery tour! :)

Owen-Proofing?

I'm skeptical about "baby-proofing" but I'm certain that it is impossible to "Owen-proof." He'll get into everything no matter what. And frankly, the few things we have baby-proofed are suddenly more interesting.

Owen really likes this outlet that has a baby-proof cover on it.

Here he's managed to move this HUGE cushion out of the way so he can play with the lamp cord (which is inside a baby-proof thing so he can't do much ... but still ...)

And here I've blocked his path to the diaper genie that he was pulling up on, but which was so light that it would immediately just topple over on top of him. Of course, he found this pseudo-baby-proofing move to be great for climbing other furniture.

Where do pants go?

Owen wouldn't allow me to put his pants back on ... his legs ... so I put them on his head! He didn't seem to mind. In fact, I think he thought he was pretty darn cool!

The Dangers of Holding a Video Camera

Here's a video of Owen walking on his own ... to my dismay! He often just takes off walking like that but I usually don't have a video camera in my hand. I was caught unprepared! To keep rolling? Or not!? Luckily, he has figured out how to catch himself when he falls, as he does in this short video.

I don't know why, but babies love to chew on paper! Owen gets his little mouth on just about every tag or peice of paper that comes near him. Oh, and his top 4 teeth are all poking out now! He's handling teething quite well. Thankfully!

Gaining Confidence

Owen is gaining confidence as a little walker. Once he pulls himself up on something and then decides he wants to be somewhere else, he goes for it. He's rather fearless. If it is not too far and he doesn't get overly excited, he'll make it there just fine. Here's a video of him walking the length of our living room. At the end he just stops and stays standing until he dives into my lap. ... He's definitely not walking 'everywhere' yet, but it's probably going to happen soon! Yikes!

Mommy Who?

Mommy is at a movie right now and look who is sound asleep in bed all courtesy of Papabear, who said this sleeping this was so tough.

Does this make my head look big?

Owen had his 9-month checkup today and is certified a happy, healthy baby! However, his head circumference is now in the 95th percentile (which has risen from the 25th percentile at birth). We have to return in a few weeks so they can measure his head again just to make sure it's not growing out of control. Most likely he's just taking after his dad (who sleeps on an extra-large pillow).

Unfortunately, Owen started screaming in the i'm-in-so-much-pain way this afternoon out of the blue. Not sure if it has to do with today's Polio vaccination or perhaps a new tooth breaking through the gums. Hopefully it's nothing a nice nap won't cure ...

Welcome to My House!

Owen has his very own house! This is one hand-me-down toy we avoided taking in until finally there was no denying that Owen loved it! He enjoys opening the mailbox to see what I've sent him, turning the light on and off, opening and closing the window, and crawling through the doorway.

9 Months Old!

Owen is 9 months old today! He goes to the doctor next week for his check-up. He's finally started crawling everywhere. I think he finally realized that crawling could be used to his advantage. He pulls up on EVERYTHING and has consequently hit his head on just about EVERYTHING. He still loves to walk with help but has put the walking by himself plans on hold while he enjoys crawling for a while longer. Any way you look at it, he's certainly wearing me out!

All I can get these days are pictures of him crawling away from me or climbing me trying to grab the camera out of my hands!

Crib Gym

Owen gets a big grin on his face when I put him in his crib to play. It's like a jungle gym as far as he is concerned! In this video he's already pulled himself up and is being chatty. At the end he is eyeing the other end of the crib and is about to walk over there. I had to put down the camera for that in case I needed to catch him before he knocked what few teeth he has out.

Toys! Toys!

We had to clear some room in Owen's bedroom for toy central. Now if only we could get him more interested in playing with the toys instead of trying to scale every piece of furniture!
